Nestled between a chiropractor’s office and an embroidery shop, the entrance to Olive Ridley’s Coffee and Tea Company doesn’t look like much more than a narrow hallway. However, once you step through the doors it’s easy to see why this eclectic coffee shop is a Rifle, CO favorite.
The smell of freshly-ground coffee and warm sandwiches meets you at the top of the stairs as you start your descent into the basement. Owner Natalie Wilson greets customers with a friendly hello and invites them to have a seat at any of the café’s fluffy sofas or reclaimed bar stools.
Boasting a full coffee menu using beans from Silt’s Mountain Mama Coffee Roasters, Olive Ridley’s would rival any coffee snob’s favorite shop. Their specialty drink, the Café Ridley, is made using beans from a small, organic, family-owned farm in Costa Rica. Along with the coffee is a selection of teas and local Colorado craft beers.
Olive Ridley’s also has an impressive food and bakery selection to match their coffee options. The display case is stocked with pastries, brownies, and other baked goods from Glenwood Springs’ Sunshine and Moons Bakery. There are plenty of gluten-free and vegan options as well.
The coffee and snack options are the perfect complement to the atmosphere at Olive Ridley’s. The walls are adorned with local artist’s work, and Wilson frequently hosts evening events for the community.
With live music events, open mic poetry and coffee cupping nights, and even Lego Night, the coffee shop is a great local hangout spot for people of all ages and interests. For more information and a schedule of events, visit their website, or find their Facebook page here.
